The Small-Town Charm

With a population of fewer than 6,000 people at the 2010 census, St. Helena is the perfect place for anyone looking for a simpler, slower pace of life. Tree-lined streets are dotted with historic homes, vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see, and neighbors often stop to talk with each other on their way to work or social activities. From families with young children looking for a tight-knit community to raise their family in to retirees searching for a quiet, relaxed lifestyle, St. Helena is the ideal choice for individuals in all stages of life.

The Food

St. Helena may be best known for its wine, but its food is a major selling point as well. For the ultimate taste of luxury, check out The Restaurant at Meadowood, a three-Michelin-starred restaurant that features seasonal produce from the 2.5-acre onsite garden. There are a handful of other Michelin-starred restaurants in Napa Valley as well, including French Laundry and Bouchon. If you’re looking for a more casual dining experience, St. Helena has a slew of other more laid-back eateries, coffee shops, and cafes.

The Wine

It goes without saying that living in St. Helena affords ready access to some of America’s best wine. From vineyard tours to winery tastings, settling down in St. Helena will give oenophiles a chance to experience a never-ending roster of fine wines.

The Views

Leave the smog and skyscrapers of San Francisco and other big cities behind in favor of rolling hills and sweeping vineyards. From wide-open green spaces to panoramic mountain views, St. Helena’s idyllic pastoral setting makes it one of the prettiest places in Napa County.

The History

St. Helena’s fascinating history dates back to the 1800s when settlers started cultivating vineyards in the area. In 1875, Jacob and Frederick Beringer (former employees of Charles Krug) founded the Beringer winery. Today, it is recognized as the oldest operating winery in Napa. It even produced sacramental wine during Prohibition!
